Street tennis

Street Tennis Objectives:

  • Bringing kids off the street and reducing street culture and street crime,
  • To reduce knife crime in London by bringing the children off the street, (The disclosure came as new figures also showed that 7,248 knife crimes were committed in the capital last year - equivalent to a third of all the nonfatal offences in England and Wales and a rate of 20 stabbings a day.)
  • Working to bring communities together, for all cultures and every ethnic background,
  • Getting rid of the class stigma of tennis,
  • To have Street Tennis courses being played out of all public courts in London having a feeder system via academies to identify talent. Also be finance and be involved in their tennis as they improve,
  • Have funding and sponsorship channelled into an areas which will benefit the young people who need it,
  • Reintegrate children with difficulties into education, training and tennis,
  • There are currently 15,000 children across London and the aim is to increase that to 30,000 by the time of the Olympics of 2012,
  • To allow young people to build their self-esteem, and help them progress kinaesthetically and emotionally in a safe and controlled environment
  • To improve the standard of tennis across the UK,
  • To empower young adults with the responsibility of organising events and coaching others,
  • Our tennis programmes provides opportunity to promote unity and tolerance; promotes teamwork and youth leadership, engages young people in the organisation of sport and empowers them to coach other young adults.
